BA1 2HNBSA – William Scott and his Circle: from Dylan Thomas to Mark Rothko
This talk explores Scott’s path from figuration to abstraction, ranging from 1928 as a precocious 15-year-old schoolboy in Northern Ireland, leading up to 1953, when he met and befriended Mark Rothko in New York. Jon Benington will chart Scott’s journey with the aid of works by the artists who influenced him – both from the past and amongst his contemporaries. Through these connections Jon will shed light on the artistic development and social circle of an artist who lived near Bath for almost 50 years.
