We begin in the dreams of a town, just before dawn. Winding through its streets, we continue, visiting its sleeping denizens one by one in the darkness before the sunrise. As the cock crows, and the sleepers awaken, we watch the town awaken and go through one day, following each person, and the town itself, until the sun sets again, and they go off to another night.
Originally commissioned by the BBC as a radio drama (or a “play with voices”) in 1954, Under Milk Wood has survived as one of Dylan Thomas’ most well-known and highly acclaimed works. It has had many high profile theatrical stagings, as well as having been made into a film in 1974 starring Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O Toole, Glynis Johns, Vivien Merchant, and other well-known actors.
Come experience the yearning of young love, the foibles of marriage, the ghosts of drowned sailors, and the games of little children through an evening of live music coupled with this beautiful play by the troubled, brilliant Dylan Thomas.
