Written by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, Under Milk Wood is one of the treasures of twentieth-century drama.
The play was commissioned by the BBC as a radio play and had its first broadcast in January 1954. It was later adapted for the stage. To mark the 70th anniversary of this event, we plan to recreate a radio recording studio on the Loft stage and in 1950s costumes will read the play as if it is being broadcast to the nation.
Narrators invite the audience to listen to the slumbers, dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of the fictional small Welsh fishing town, Llareggub, (buggerall spelt backwards). Later, the town awakens, and, aware now of how their feelings affect whatever they do, start their day…
