  • Join us and our omniscient narrator on International Dylan Thomas Day, to witness first hand, the dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of the fictional small Welsh fishing village, Llareggub. They include Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard, relentlessly nagging her two dead husbands; Captain Cat, reliving his seafaring times; Organ Morgan, obsessed with his music; Polly Garter, pining for her dead lover; and the postman and his wife steaming open the letters so he can relay the news around the village. Later, the village awakens and, aware now of how their feelings affect whatever they do, we watch them go about their daily business.

Under Milk Wood was originally a 1954 radio drama commissioned by the BBC and later adapted for the stage, most recently at the National Theatre to excellent reviews. This reading by local amateur group “The Spoken Word” re-imagines the original recording of the 1954 Radio drama. Produced by kind permission of the Dylan Thomas Estate. The Spoken Word comprises a group of talented local actors, and has its roots in earlier Cookham festivals.
