  • Performance on Friday 6th September 2019: Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas

To begin at the beginning it is Spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black…

Under Milk Wood, a play for voices was first staged in 1953 in New York with Dylan Thomas and five other actors at the 92Y Poetry Centre. He told the nervous group before the reading … “just love the words, love the words!” and therein lies the magic of this piece. This language is rich, resonates with gentle humour and is beautifully lyrical.

Under Milk Wood is a delightful microscopic look into the simple lives of the inhabitants of a small Welsh seaside village. Circle Productions presents this abridged version of the play reading, with David Muller as “First Voice” bringing the audience right into the thick of things. He is supported by a group of talented local community actors, all of whom are lovers of Dylan Thomas’ work. These eight seasoned performers play the more than 50 characters who live in Llareggub.

Be delighted and entertained by this group of quirky characters that includes Nogood Boyo, Polly Garter, Willy Nilly Postman and Captain Cat, “this one Spring day”.

This amateur production of “Under Milk Wood (The Definitive Edition)”, is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD a Concord Theatricals Company.
