The Uplands, Swansea: a walk through Dylan Thomas’ Childhood
Cwmdonkin Park, The Uplands, Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom45 mins
Tip-SupportedAbout the tour
Dylan Thomas was born and raised in The Uplands of Swansea. His childhood was his inspiration until the day he died and his playground was Cwmdonkin Park – a beautiful green space and park right next door to his birthplace; Number 5 Cwmdonkin Drive. His birthplace is now an Edwardian house preserved as it would have been when Dylan grew up but still functional and a bed and breakfast too! Adrian will show you the park that inspired so much of his work and which remains one of the jewels of Swansea to this day. He will end the walk at the poet’s birthplace and introduce you to the team who run it. Throughout the walk, Adrian will use excerpts from Dylan’s work to assist the story-telling.Meet Wales Guides
Sonia and Adrian have been tour guiding for over twenty years. Adrian is a native of Swansea and has worked all over Europe as a tour guide and actor. He has a special affection for the works and story of Dylan Thomas, and is currently training to be an official Green Badge guide with the Wales Official Tourist Guide Association. Having spent her childhood in Spain and Belgium, Sonia has a life-long affair with languages and all things European. She trained as an actor in London, and has worked in theatre, film, voice-over, teaching and travel. She has also been a European tour manager since 2000. Sonia eventually settled in Wales, making a home in the picturesque coastal Mumbles near Swansea. Join them as they show you around the cities, coastline and magical mountains of their beautiful land. Diolch yn fawr!!
