S1 2LQJoin Professors John Goodby and Alison Twells to learn more about Dylan Thomas, his post-war government commissions and life in Sheffield.
Dylan Thomas’s elegies for civilians killed in the Blitz are justly famous. But few are aware that he also worked as a scriptwriter on Ministry of Information films during WWII. Two films - New Towns for Old (1943) and Our Country (1944) – heavily feature Sheffield, the Blitz and postward redevelopment. In the seventieth anniversary of Thomas’s death in 1953, Dylan Thomas expert Professor John Goodby and cultural historian Professor Alison Twells give new insights into this little-known aspect of Dylan Thomas’s wartime writing.
