  • We have Welsh-born poet Bryn Griffiths this Saturday 13th May 2017 at Perth Poetry Club, and he is helping us celebrate International Dylan Thomas Day.

Bryn Griffiths is a writer and raconteur of Welsh origin distinguished in the field of verse and with a life-long love of the sea and ships, three of his twelve poetry books being concerned with maritime matters. His work has a direct “singing” quality and has been highly praised during the course of his career by critics as diverse as Edmund Blunden, Ken Slessor, Zulfikar Ghose and David Jones. Bryn Griffiths writes to be heard and he has an international reputation as a fine reader of verse in the Celtic tradition.

Bryn has worked as a journalist, drama critic, dramatist, and writer of many film and TV scripts e.g. BBC and Thames TV (David Frost). This Saturday he reads his own work and devotes time to showcase the poetry of Dylan Thomas poetry to show the power, passion and melody inherent in the Welsh psyche. Dylan Thomas works to be enjoyed include:

    Poem in October

    Poem On His Birthday

    Fern Hill

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Bryn will also read poems in Welsh.

Bryn Griffiths received the Australian Community Cultural Development Board’s 2004 Ros Bower Memorial Award for his career commitment to the principle of giving all Australians the right to access the arts.

Please join us at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge this Saturday 2pm-4pm to hear Bryn Griffiths. Open-mike as always, and open-mikers are welcome to read their favourite Dylan Thomas pieces as well as their own verse.
