  • As part of Mark Swords exhibition The living and the dead, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios hosts a listening event of Under Milk Wood by poet Dylan Thomas. Under Milk Wood is a 1954 radio drama which was commissioned by the BBC. The play is located in a small Welsh fishing village, Llareggub, where the narrator of the piece invites listeners to witness the inhabitants of the town’s dreams.

Swords was influenced by Thomas’ creation of multiple narratives and fictional story lines throughout the play. He listened to this piece throughout the making of the work and has spoken of it as an influence in his work.

In the exhibition The living and the dead, Swords has created theatrically staged paintings that have come into being through a series of gestures that juxtapose the idea of making and unmaking.
