‘My Holiday Memories’
Primary school children aged 8-11 years are invited via their schools to participate in the DylanED competition to celebrate International Dylan Thomas Day, which is celebrated on 14 May each year.
The competition, which is entitled ‘My Holiday Memories’ is based around the 1946 radio broadcast Holiday Memory – Dylan Thomas’ classic recollection of the sights and sounds of sunshine laden bank holidays spent with his family as a small boy on the lively Swansea seashore.
Following in the footsteps of Swansea’s foremost writer and storyteller, the competition will look for pupils aged 8-11 to submit a short story (100 words), poem or picture of their own fondest holiday memories.
With the aid of a professional actor who will come to your school for FREE during April (subject to availability) – your class will see and hear Dylan’s story magically retold, capturing their imaginations and providing them with the perfect inspiration. It will also give them a fascinating insight into what being a child in 1920s Swansea was like!
Competition winners will receive a number of goodies including a trophy, framed copy of their work, goody bag and books for the school library. Selected entries will also feature in an online exhibition in celebration of ‘Dylan Day’
