GL53 7HGDear Dylan — with Hannah Ellis & Roy Mcfarlane
Wednesday 22 April 7.30pm to 8.30pm £8/£6
Playhouse LoungeThis very special event is part of the celebrations to launch Dear Dylan, an anthology of poetry and letters after Dylan Thomas (pub Indigo Dreams). Dylan’s granddaughter, Hannah Ellis, is a teacher, writer, and creative consultant to her grandfather’s estate. She offers a very personal insight into the life, soul and creative genius of this much loved poet.
Hannah and guest poet Roy Mcfarlane share favourite DT poems, and the event also includes readings of Dylan-inspired poems submitted to the new anthology.
Roy Mcfarlane was born in Birmingham of Jamaican parentage and has lived mainly in Wolverhampton. He has been Birmingham’s Poet Laureate and Starbucks’ Poet in Residence. Roy’s writing has appeared in magazines and anthologies, including Out of Bounds (Bloodaxe 2012) and he is writer and editor of Celebrate Wha? (Smokestack 2011).
Roy’s first full collection of poems was the critically acclaimed Beginning With Your Last Breath. (Nine Arches press). ‘Combining the skills of the orator, poet, craftsman and bard, Roy McFarlane has created a very special debut.’ – Ruby Robinson
