Project Description

Cutting up the prologue of Under Milk Wood

  • Date:  Thursday 10th May for two weeks

  • Online – Hannah Ellis’s blog @ www.discovery.sites.k-hosting.co.uk

  • Hannah will be sharing a series of interesting films, videos, recordings and poetry ‘inspired by Dylan Thomas’ to celebrate International Dylan Thomas Day on May 14th.

Last year’s Love the Words competition asked young people aged 7-25, anywhere in the world, to ‘cut up’ the first few paragraphs of Dylan’s Under Milk Wood and use these to create their own visual verse which were then shared on Twitter.

Cut-up poetry was a style invented by the surrealists and favoured, later on, by the beat poets, many of whom – Allen Ginsberg in particular – were fans of Dylan’s work.

We received entries from all over the UK, as well as the USA, and Hannah then selected her favourites which she shared on the discoverdylanthomas website.

The Welsh language entries for Love the Words were selected by poet and rapper Rufus Mufasa.

Hannah is delighted to share with you the prologue from Under Milk Wood so you can, once again, create some poems of your own.  The cut-up poems she selected as part of last year’s Love the Words competition will also be shared for inspiration.
