Project Description
Online event, Birthplace Biteback from the Dylan Thomas Birthplace
Date:
Tuesday October 27th
Online
There have been no Birthplace events for eight months, but now we’re back with a monthly series of Zoom interviews and performances mainly, but not exclusively, about Dylan. Building on our lockdown crowdfund project, which attracted over 170 supporters and our 3 Dylan Day YouTube programmes which drew over 800 views, our first event will be on 27 October, the 106th anniversary of Dylan’s birth in No 5.
Some of the programme inserts (subject to change):
The Alun Gibbard Interview: the author and broadcaster in conversation with Rob Gittins, Eastenders’ senior scriptwriter. There’ll be talk about soaps, but it’s the Birthplace which cemented the Mancunian wordsmith’s love of Dylan, leading to books and TV documentary about Dylan’s last days in New York.
The Lighthouse Theatre Company’s Adrian Metcalfe performs part of Dylan’s famous radio broadcast Return Journey.
Folk singer Lorraine King wrote Number Five Cwmdonkin Drive for the Roy Noble Radio Wales show
From New York we’ll hear about coffin nails with Arthur Nash, who saved the apartment where Dylan stayed at the Chelsea Hotel from the developers.
Birthplace Poet in Residence Iqbal Malik shares writing tips for the younger audience and results of the Swansea Poetry Slam.
